When Carolyn was little a new doll was introduced. She loved building houses out of cardboard and sewing her own clothes for Barbie, Ken, and Skipper. Barbie was small and only required scraps of fabric. Growing up with 4 brothers, she preferred to keep to her room leaving lots of time to develop her creative talents. This led to many jobs at sewing factories, fabric stores and lots of freelance work altering clothes and formal wear. She used her skills to sew clothes for her 4 daughters and their dolls. In 2006 her Quilt Guild gave a challenge titled “Little Things” and she pictured a Barbie shoe. That thought turned into a 3D quilt with actual Barbies on display that took 6 months to complete. After finishing her quilt, she continued to recreate everyday happenings and iconic characters with Barbie and Friends. After several years of making scenes she now has the space to share her creative work with others.
As a young girl, Carolyn hand stitched this robe with scraps from the hem of her mother’s robe.
